A magnified image of a “compound eye”, it represents a different approach to vision … which compares a multitude of simple views … rather than just one or two sharp, focused views.

These two alternative approaches to vision roughly correspond to two different alternatives to viewing what can be considered compelling information — namely either relying on the expert knowledge of a few experts, or (alternatively) relying on the broad appeal of widely held beliefs.
